A Resource Roundup for Trauma Parenting! (Plus, some resources for those supporting them)
Are you the parent or caregiver of a child who’s been impacted by trauma? Perhaps you’re looking for hope, help, or just a few more tips and ideas for loving your wounded child a little bit better…
When I first started looking for help on how to parent a child wounded by the effects of trauma, I had no idea where to start! It can be very overwhelming to find resources that truly help.
With that in mind, and with the hope of making it just a little bit easier for others in this situation, I’ve provided a list of a few of my favorite books, websites, and videos I’ve found the most helpful in my Trauma Parenting journey. I hope they provide encouragement, help, and hope for you as well.
Additionally, if you’re a family member, friend, or member of the church body looking to understand how to better support those around you, there are a few things here for you, too! (Frankly, one of the best things you can do to support families with children impacted by trauma is to learn about it and gain understanding, so the following resources for parents/caregivers are also for you!)
Parents/Caregivers
At only 3-5 minutes long, these “Empowered to Connect” videos by Dr. Kayrn Purvis are an easy place to find information and encouragement when you only have a few minutes at a time. Though short, they are powerful and filled with insight and wonderful tips!
If you could pick just one book to add to your parenting toolbox, I highly recommend“The Connected Child“, by Karyn B. Purvis, Ph.D., David R. Cross. Ph.D., and Wendy Lyons Sunshine. I’ve found so much help and practical application in this book!
**This would also make a great gift for any adoptive/foster family if you’re looking for a way to bless someone!
In her book “Does My Child Have PTSD?”, Jolene Philo does a great job of explaining trauma’s effects on children and offers helpful insights and tips.

These are great resources. I would also add anything by Daniel Siegel, Peter Levine, and Bessel van der Kolk. The three of them focus on trauma and attachment disorders. Thank you for the focus on this beautiful and fragile population! God Bless
Yes, those are all great resources! I know this isn’t an exhaustive list– just a starting point! I’ll be doing more round ups in the future. Thank-you!
