(UPDATE: The first call to action through prayer and fasting took place on February 4, 2019. As there is an ongoing need for fasting and prayer over this issue, and in light of the current Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision this post is updated with a request for us to join together with ongoing prayer and fasting)
A few years ago I had a dream. In this dream, the entire sky was filled with clouds. But these were not just any ordinary clouds– they were the faces of babies. These babies–clouded in gray– had been aborted. The heavens were filled with the faces of the innocent. Lives that were never given a chance to see the light of this world, yet their eyes peered down from the heavens to the earth below. Their crimson blood a testament to the sacrifice they became. Innocent lives were sacrificed to the gods of deception, hopelessness, fear, money, and convenience. Their blood covered our lands. I awoke drenched in grief because this was not merely a dream but a grievous depiction of reality.
For years, murder by abortion has been legalized, defended, and even celebrated. This has always grieved me to the point of tears. I have never stopped praying for abortion to end and have always been pro-life. However, in light of New York’s new bill allowing abortion up to birth, for any reason, I am moved far beyond tears.
My entire being recoils at this injustice and wickedness.
Shock and disbelief compete with righteous anger and intense grief as I wonder how in the world we have become a nation that legalizes and even celebrates murdering innocent lives.
I have read many arguments for abortion in the case of rape or incest, and I know many women and girls find themselves in terrifying situations, yet it
is pure deception that makes a woman believe that abortion is the solution. I know in the very core of my being that two wrongs can in no way make a right.
*What I also know is that God is kind, gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, and abounding in love (Psalm 103). I know that He forgives and redeems. This post is not me bringing condemnation to the women who felt like this was their only way. A lot of propaganda and lies are pushed onto women seeking “help” in a vulnerable time. If you are reading this and you have had an abortion, I want you to know that my heart aches for you. I also want you to know that God loves you. You only need to come to Jesus in repentance and he WILL forgive and heal.
This post is also not intended to spark debate on all the “special circumstances,” politics, and common arguments surrounding abortion– there are plenty of those already.
This post is for the people who, like me, are for life.
We who are grieved beyond words.
We who have righteous anger toward the deception that causes such evil to be accepted.
We who feel helpless because of the enormity of what it will take to turn this around.
We are NOT helpless as long as we have breath. We serve a big God.
But—
We cannot remain silent.
I feel strongly that silence at best, is acceptance–and at worst–is an accomplice.
So to us, I issue a call to action:
- Keep speaking up for the rights of the unborn. Sign petitions, March for Life, and spread awareness of the horrific realities of abortion.
- Speak up and stand up to help the pregnant mom who is lost and alone. Let love for her and her unborn shine brighter than any condemnation of why she might find herself in that situation (Church, we can and must do better at this!).
- In advocating for life, be willing to be the hands that help find another way besides abortion. Yes, “the system” may be imperfect, but we should still be willing to provide foster care and adoption if we are calling for life. We should be willing to be the hands and feet of Jesus and come alongside the struggling parent to offer another way.
And finally, I am calling us together to fast and pray.
Our greatest hope is JESUS.
Please consider joining me in fasting and praying one day a week specifically for:
- Repentance. Both for our own complacency, sins, and silence and for all those involved in the abortion agenda to come to repentance. For the eyes of our nation to be opened to the truth, and the reality of this sin to become blatantly clear to the masses, bringing true repentance and change.
- our nation to return to the values of life–for EVERY life. I will be praying that children would again be viewed as a blessing
Psalm 127:3-5
Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him. 4Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. 5Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.
- for our people to return to believing in the sanctity of marriage, sex, and purity.
- an end to the deception that Satan has thrown at young mothers– that fear, shame, and hopelessness would be replaced with love, hope, and another way.
- of course, the end to abortion.
- and ultimately, for revival–a return to the righteous fear of God and a standard of holiness.
Will you join me?
Comment below to let me know you’ll “join hands” with me in prayer. By adding your name to the thread we can see our virtual circle of prayer as we stand together!
Matthew 18:20
For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.
Please share and invite others to stand with us, raising our voices together in prayer and fasting, and let’s fight together!
Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
